Schoolrunner supports the transfer of attendance data, both daily and class, to PowerSchool via their AutoComm feature. This process requires setup on both the PowerSchool side, done by you, and the Schoolrunner side, coordinated by your School Happiness Coordinator.
If you have been informed that your AutoComm is setup on the Schoolrunner side, but you are still running into issues, here are a few common things to look for!
- First, does the managed connection in PowerSchool succeed?
- If yes, move on to next question.
- If no, refer to our documentation on setting up that managed connect.
- Second, does the manual "Run Now" for the AutoComm succeed?
- If yes, confirm the time you are running your AutoComm with Schoolrunner. This may be a timing issue.
- If no, continue reading for other troubleshooting issues.
Common AutoComm Errors
Below are some of the common errors you might receive from PowerSchool.
Execution was unsuccessful due to the following error: FTP Connection Failed
An FTP error occurred while trying to download the import file: File transfer failed: Remote path not found
This error usually means you have the wrong file path in your AutoComm setup. Our file paths will always follow this pattern:
Daily Attendance -> /ps/attendance/Attendance_Export_SCHOOL_NAME_(year-extension).txt
Class Attendance -> /ps/attendance/Class_Attendance_Export_SCHOOL_NAME.txt
- Your school name will be provided to you by your SHC with the correct formatting for the file path when you are alerted that your AutoComm has been set up.
- The year extension will always be the "short" year. I.e 20-21.txt, 21-22.txt, 22-23.txt and so forth
Check your YEAR extension if you have an AutoComm running from previous years. Those extensions need to be updated annually!
Check that your file path starts with a / .
Error on line 1: Validation error for field: attendance.yearid Value(yearID) - Value must be an integer AND Validation error for field: attendance.yearid Value(yearID) - Value must be a number AND Validation error for field: attendance.att_interval Value(att_interval) - Value must be an integer AND Validation error for field: attendance.att_interval Value(att_interval) - Value must be a number AND Validation error for field: attendance.att_interval Value(att_interval) - Value may not contain more than 10 character(s).
If you are seeing something like the above error, rest easy! This is an expected error and simply means that PS does not recognize our header row as an attendance record, which we expect....since it is not an attendance record. Your data should still be flowing into PowerSchool as expected.
Not imported: Invalid attendance code or id
**NOTE: this is an error you will see if your school's sync is NOT PS Direct.
Error line 8: student Granger, Hermione [08743] isn't enrolled on 8/9/2021
This error is alerting you that a student has been given an attendance record for a date they are not enrolled. If a student should be enrolled on that date, make those changes in PowerSchool! We will bring in the updated enrollments AND send two weeks worth of prior attendance data with each AutoComm, so that record will go through the next day.
