For how class attendance and daily attendance do (or don't) interact, there are several ins and outs worth considering. More on that here.
But to ensure that a student's daily attendance code always pre-fills a matching class code, there is a simple step you can take.
Note: "Pre-filling" a class code is not the same as saving a class code. When a daily code pre-fills a class code, it means that teachers will see a particular attendance code pre-selected for a student on the Class Attendance page. Teachers are still responsible for saving the class record. Pre-filling the code is just a shortcut that ensures a teacher knows what the right could should be, and for saving him/her some clicks.
The default behavior controls which attendance codes get pre-filled on the Class Attendance page is as follows:
- If a student has an in-school daily code, it will not be pre-filled on the Class Attendance page
- If a student has an out-of-school daily code, it will be pre-filled on the Class Attendance page
However, you can change this default behavior for individual attendance codes if you want. For example, you could make "Present" (an in-school code) pre-fill for teachers, or you could prevent a "Excused Absence" (an out-of-school code) from pre-filling for teachers.
To do this, visit the Attendance Types page and select the attendance type you want to modify. Choose "Yes" if you want kids who have this code for daily attendance to also have it pre-filled on the Class Attendance page.
Or choose "No" if you want to ensure that nothing is pre-filled for teachers when a student has this code.
This is something that can be done for any attendance code, whether it's based in an external system (like PowerSchool) or not.
