The School Setup feature allows you to create and manage fundamental school data directly within Schoolrunner. Access to School Setup is controlled by the "School Setup" permission. If you have this permission, you'll see "School Setup" listed under the "Setup menu.
The following are considered "fundamental school data":
- Your school(s)
- Grading terms and dates
- Teachers and staff
- Students and student data, such as demographics, contacts, and custom attributes
- Courses
- Sections
- Student section enrollment
School Setup is used in place of a traditional SIS. If you don't have a SIS, School Setup may be right for you. If you already have a SIS that syncs with Schoolrunner, please continue to create and manage your data there, or contact Schoolrunner support to ask about switching. Switching may be worthwhile if you're planning to stop using a SIS or if there are major operational challenges outside of your control to keep your SIS up to date (i.e. it's controlled at a district level).
Note that School Setup does not replace all functions of a traditional SIS. Specifically:
- School Setup does not do state reporting.
- It does not handle student application, waitlisting, or registration.
- It does not build bell schedules.
- However, bell schedules and A/B days can be configured separately and sent to Schoolrunner via an SFTP sync. Contact Schoolrunner support for more info.
