There are a lot of options to consider when setting up your report cards. Customize report cards with your school logo, allow for double-sided printing, include a mission statement, and more. Include everything you want to share and nothing that you don’t.

Check out all of the settings for full details (Setup>Settings>Report Cards; the "Edit app settings" permission is required). You can find some general guidance below. Feel free to test out setting by changing things and regenerating report cards! There's no harm in doing this; in fact, it's best to test out your report card settings before the deadline arrives. (Just don't repeatedly "publish" report cards or parents and students may get repeated notifications.)

Attendance Options

You can choose to show a summary of certain daily attendance codes (which codes are your choice) for the current grading term, or for the entire year to date. Use the two "Show Daily Attendance" settings for this.

You can also show class attendance rates for each course a student is enrolled in as part of his or her grades table. This lets you show, for example, math grades next to math attendance. The option to include class attendance next to grades is in the "Show Grades" dropdown. The "Show Grades – Summary Row" setting also allows you to add a row that averages class attendance (and GPA) if you choose.

Comments Options

The "Default Comment" field allows you to put the same comment on the top of every report card, above the grades table. HTML tags and replacement patterns allow you to customize the default message. If overall comments (i.e. comments not about specific courses) are entered for students on the Report Card page, those comments will override this default comment.

The "Show Grade" dropdown, which controls what shows up in the grades table that is often the focus of report cards, also lets you choose whether or not to show comments for course-specific comments that teachers may enter.

Font, Margin, Page, and Printing Options

You'll see lots of settings that allow you to tweak font size or margins. These can help with readability or with allowing more space for data to be displayed. Report cards can be laid out vertically or horizontally; use the "Orientation" setting.

If you plan on printing physical report cards, you may want to use the "Print Double-Sided" setting. Note that double-sided printing can also be toggled each time you generate report cards on the Report Cards page. This setting just determines your default. If you expect report cards to be signed and returned, use the "Signature Line" setting.

Consider publishing digital report cards. You'll save paper and time that'd be otherwise spent dealing with distribution logistics. Students and parents will be able to download report cards whenever they want from the mobile app or portal, and you'll be able to keep tabs on who is (or is not) downloading them with Schoolrunner's Engagement Filters.

You can determine whether report cards feature color-coded grades, assessment results, and standards. Use the "Show Assessments/Grades/Standards – Color" settings.

Report Card Customization/Branding

Add your school's logo, mission statement, and change the terminology from "Report Card" to something else, if you call these something different (see the "Report Card Title" setting).

You can also use custom colors to reflect academic results. See here for more info on how to determine custom colors.

Behavior Options

You can display a high-level summary of behavior info, over the entire year or specific to the most recent grading period. You can also show a table with weekly cash/point balances. Look for the three "Show Behaviors" settings.

The behavior summary will highlight merits and demerits (or whatever you've retitled these). Note that you cannot select specific behavior types to show.

Grades Options

Course grades are at the heart of many report cards. The first setting to consider for course grades is the "Show Grades" dropdown. If you don't choose "Grades" here, most other grade settings are moot. Assuming that grades are shown, you're able to determine whether teacher names or credits are shown next to courses, whether raw scores are shown, etc.

Note that the "Show Grades – Display Raw Scores" setting also affects the Progress Reports page.

Standards Options

If your school grades by standards (or even just tracks them), these settings can either replace or add to the grades settings (i.e. you can show standard results without reporting out overall course grades, if you want). The "Show Standards" setting needs to be set to "Yes" for other standard settings to be used.

Note that the "Show Standards – Grading Scale Set" setting also applies to the Progress Reports page.

Translation and Additional Display Options

The "Show Student Groups" setting allows you to highlight student membership in groups that have been set to show on report cards (via the Groups page).

The "Translation – Home Language Field" setting determines whether or not Schoolrunner is able to automatically translate report cards. Assuming that whatever field you choose here is populated by Google Translate language codes, Schoolrunner will generate, for each student who's tagged with a language code, a standard report card in English and a second report card in the other language. You don't have to use the Translation – Home Language Field setting to translate report cards. This just makes it more automated. You can always pick and choose languages directly on the Report Cards page.

Sample Report Card

Note that report cards will only display a column for terms for which students have grades. If you don't see a grade for a course that you know should be on a report card, check that the course in question has the appropriate grading methodologies set up for all terms you wish to see on the report card.
