To message school staff, you must have a Schoolrunner account and you must use the Schoolrunner 2.0 mobile app.
Select "Messages" from the app menu (accessed via the "hamburger" icon in the upper left of your home screen, or pull out from the left side of any screen). You'll also see a badge reflecting the number of unread messages you have, if applicable.
You'll see a list of conversations. You cannot start your own conversation with school staff, so if you don't see any yet, it means that no messages or announcements have been sent to you. Hang tight until your school reaches out to you!
English is the default languages of messages, but you can have your messages translated if you want!
There are two types of message threads you'll see. One is titled according to the first initial and last name of the staff member (such as "H. Martinez"), and is a direct message between you and that person. These threads will have a speech bubble icon next to them.
The other type of thread will be titled according to a group name. This could show up as "All Students", if a principal sends out an important school-wide announcement, for example. Or it may be titled according to a smaller type of group, such as "Stone Homeroom".
Whatever the title of the thread, know that it represents a group that your student is part of, which is why you're getting the message. These threads will have a megaphone icon next to them, so you're aware that it's an announcement.
An important thing to note is that group announcements do not always allow you to reply. If you tap into the thread to view the message, you may see a gray button at the bottom that informs you that replies aren't allowed (center, above). Schools may send this type of message when they want to communicate some information that doesn't require a response.
Some announcements will let you reply (right, above). You'll see a green button instead of a gray one, and your reply will go into a thread with the staff member who sent out the message. Your reply will not be part of any sort of group chat, and will not be visible to any other guardians who may have also received the same message.
