How do I identify assessments without standards?

The Assessments page has a filter that lets you easily view assessments that are missing standards on some or all of their questions. This can be crucial if your school's grading is standards-based. Any individual questions unaligned to standards will not count toward student grades, so keeping an eye on this is very important.

You can find the filter about halfway down the filter menu on the Assessments page.

When using this filter, you have five choices:

• Has Standards & Results – This will return assessments that have at least one question (not necessarily all questions) tied to an standard AND have student results.
• Has Some Questions Unaligned to Standards – This will return assessments that have at least one question NOT tied to an standard, regardless of whether or not there are results on the assessments.
• Aligned to Standards (but no Results) – This will return assessments that have at least one question (not necessarily all questions) tied to an standard AND have no student results yet.
• Has Results (but no Standards) – This will return assessments that have no standards at all but do have student results.
• No Standards or Results – This will return assessments that have neither standards nor student results. These may be assessments that were created in advance and are pending results.

It's important to understand that there may be some overlap with these filter options. For example, any assessments returned by the first option will also be returned by the second. But all results returned with the second option may not necessarily be returned by the first.

 

A good place to start is with the fourth option, Has Results (but no Standards). This will bring back assessments that already have student results but without any standards at all. These assessments may be the biggest red flag if your school uses standards-based grading.

 

Also, pay attention to the colored blocks for each assessment listed. The "Standards" block and the "Student Results" provide quick visual references for determining whether an assessment has standards and results.

 

Note that the "Standards" block lists the number of unique standards on an assessment. For example, if an assessment has five questions, and the same standard is tied to three of those five questions (with no standards tied to the other two), the "Standards" block for that assessment will display "1". The "Standards" block does not indicate whether or not all questions are tied to standards.

Another thing to consider when using the "Standards & Results" filter is what other filters you have (or do not have) set.
