"Linked" students are kids that share some connection in their data. These are often kids that live at the same address, siblings who share an adult contact, etc. The links between students are created from data provided to Schoolrunner by your SIS. Hover over the info icon to see how students are linked.
If a student is linked to others, these connections will appear in the "Contacts" section, which also contains parent/guardian contact info.
Student links are determined by multiple students having one or more of the following:
- Shared address
- Shared contact phone number
- "Main", "Home", or "Cell"/"Mobile" numbers only
- "Work" and "Other" numbers are not included
- Shared contact email address
- Shared links to a guardian account
- I.E. an adult has created a Schoolrunner account and has access to more than one student
To adjust which students are linked, you will need to make updates to the underlying data provided to Schoolrunner.
Also worth noting: if one of the shared data points above pops up 10 or more times, Schoolrunner will ignore it and not list it as a link between students. This helps avoid contacts like doctors or dentists that are shared by many students.
If you have multiple schools in your network or district, everyone will be able to see linked students across schools. This is true even if, say, a middle school teacher doesn't have access to the high school, where a middle schooler has a sibling. However, teachers cannot see any info for students at other schools other than name, grade, and school.
When a student is linked to others, the "Contacts" section on student pages has a phone icon. Clicking this icon brings you to the Communications page with all linked students pre-selected. Note: pre-selected students include students at other schools. Teachers can X out any student for whom they don't want to log a communication record.
