Why doesn't the staff dashboard show correct numbers for failing courses?

The "Failing Courses" column on the staff dashboard is a great way of telling which teachers and students may need extra support. If the numbers in this column don't look right, there are a couple easy things you can do to troubleshoot.

1. Make sure the dashboard's date range is set correctly. The "Failing Courses" column reflects grades for the shortest grading term that contains the "To" date. In other words, if the "To" date is today, and today is part of both Q2 and S1, you'll see failing grades for Q2. If you're looking for data for a different grading period, use the "From" and "To" dates to make sure you're looking at right time period (or just use the quick links that appear when choosing the date).
2. Make sure grading scales are set up correctly. A "failing" grade in Schoolrunner is a grade that corresponds to a grading scale level that has a GPA value of 0. If you have an "F" grading scale level, but that "F" has a GPA value of 1, for example, then this will not qualify as a failing grade.
3. Also, when investigating grading scale levels, make sure that you're looking at the right scale for the course. Different courses can use different grading scales in Schoolrunner.
4. Also, remember to recalculate grades after making any grading scale changes before re-checking the student dashboard. Furthermore, it's worth checking to see if the grading period is locked (which will prevent any changes to course grades).
5. If things still aren't cleared up, hover over the number shown in the "Failing Courses" column. A tooltip will pop up, and it will list which students are failing what course. This will give you some specific students whose data you can dig into.
