Schoolrunner is intended to be used as a Student Data Management software that sits on top of a school or district's Student Information System (SIS). This allows for easier teacher workflows consolidated in one place, as well as accessible, easy-to-use analysis across datasets.
The Role of a Traditional SIS
A traditional SIS manages state reporting and generally sends data out to multiple styles of platforms. Traditional SISs also pull data in and serve as a "data warehouse." Because of this, SISs can be difficult to use from an analysis perspective.
Schoolrunner & a Traditional SIS
Schools that utilize Schoolrunner and a SIS leverage Schoolrunner to make their teachers' lives easier as well as view holistic student data needs across datasets.
Schoolrunner's School Setup Feature
Schoolrunner does have a basic SIS features (called "School Setup") in order to accommodate smaller schools (usually newly formed) with their earliest needs, but this differs from a traditional SIS in that Schoolrunner does not focus on sending data directly to other platforms, except the data that is accepted via Clever. Our open API is designed to make it easier for clients to send data on their own when needed.
