Can detentions be reset automatically?

Yes! If you’re interested in scheduling automatic resets of detentions, there are four different ways you can configure a scheduled task. When you start to add a scheduled task (Go to Configure > Scheduled Tasks) and choose "Reset all detentions" from the "Type" dropdown, you’ll see the following fields and options:

 

Give your task a clear, descriptive name. Choose the time(s) and day(s) that you want it to run, and choose the student group that this detention reset should apply to. If you’ve turned on more than one detention type in Schoolrunner, you'll need to determine which type of detention this task applies to. A task can apply to only one detention type at a time; if you need to reset multiple detention types, you'll need multiple tasks.

Once you’ve set up the basic information that’s outlined above, you can fill out the "Max Value" field and the toggle the "Clear Partial Detentions" button. The combination of these two options determines how your detention reset will behave.

 

Any time that "Clear Partial Detentions" = "Yes", partial detentions will be removed. Any time that there is a number entered in the "Max Value" field, students with more than that number of detentions will be brought down to that number.

All configurations ensure that any student with a negative detention value is brought up to zero. If you prefer to leave kids with a negative balance alone, you can modify the group to which the task applies so that it only includes kids with detention to serve.
