How to use the Academic section for MTSS/RTI tracking
Schoolrunner does not have a dedicated section for tracking Response to intervention (RTI) or Multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) services and interventions; however, it is possible to create a workaround using the Academics section of the platform.
Create a course
To begin tracking RTI/MTSS services and interventions in Schoolrunner, you will create a course in the Academics section.
Important considerations:
- Upload tracks as standards
- Pay attention to roll up and recent assessment options
Create assessments in the course
- Create assessments for different times of year
- Be sure to have the assessment not count for a grade (this can be accomplished with strategic methodologies & assessment types)
Configure the grading scale
- The Grading scale should be separate from other grading scales and match progress milestones
- When the grading scale is configured as such families are able to see progress on the platform
Create Sections
- New sections can be created for this need or you can use the "Show my" toggle
Standards
- You can turn the "Show Standards" setting on under Report Cards to increase visibility into what standards/tracks have been assessed throughout the year
Analysis
- Once this workaround has been built, schools are able to see where students are "scoring" on each standard and what progress looks like over time
Second Method: Tracking RTI/MTSS In Behaviors
A second method some schools use for RTI/MTSS tracking is through the Behaviors section.
Strategically naming Groups
- Within the behaviors section, schools can create Groups with strategically aligned names
- Then, schools are able to use these types to identify progression milestones
- For example, you could name a Behavior Group ‘Emotional Intelligence’ and name the Behavior Types ‘EI: Mastered,’ ‘EI: Regression,' etc.
